Why navy works
Navy reads as a sophisticated neutral. It suits period homes (it sits comfortably alongside picture rails and panelled doors), it suits contemporary interiors (paired with brass and pale walls), and it suits dark bedrooms (where lighter colours can wash out under lamp light).
Hardware pairing
Aged brass is the classic navy pairing — warm enough to lift the colour, traditional enough to suit period homes. Brushed nickel or chrome reads more contemporary. We almost never use black hardware on navy — it disappears.
Frequently asked questions
- Will navy date?
- Navy has been in fashion since the early 2010s and shows no signs of fading. It's also one of the most repaintable colours — if you ever wanted to change the wall colour, navy joinery doesn't constrain you.
