Where black works
Black wardrobes work in rooms with at least one window that gets direct sun for part of the day. They look best paired with warm wood flooring, off-white walls and a single warm accent — a brass picture light, a tan leather bench, a rust-coloured rug.
Black is harder to live with in north-facing rooms or in tight spaces with no natural light — the room can feel cave-like under lamp light alone.
Matte vs satin
We strongly recommend matte black over satin or gloss. Matte hides dust and fingerprints; gloss shows everything and reflects the room in ways that can feel cluttered.
Frequently asked questions
- Will black show dust?
- Less than gloss black, but more than off-white. A weekly wipe with a dry microfibre keeps it crisp.
