Why shaker works in London bedrooms
Shaker doors flatter period homes. The vertical panel detail echoes Victorian picture rails and Edwardian wainscoting; the proportions suit the tall ceilings and tall windows; and the plain colour palette — sage, off-white, deep navy, inky black — sits comfortably alongside the wall colours people actually use in London bedrooms.
Because the panel detail is moulded into the face of the door rather than added on top, the doors stay slim, slam quietly on Blum concealed soft-close hinges, and read as full-height joinery rather than a stack of cabinets.
Panel counts and proportions
Door height drives panel count. Doors above 2.2 m typically take three or four panels to keep proportions balanced; below that, two panels read best. Our designers will show options at the survey.
Frequently asked questions
- Can shaker doors be in wood-grain or texture finishes?
- Panelled doors are plain colours only — wood-grain and texture decors aren't available with panel detail because the CNC routing exposes the MDF core.
- Do brass knobs tarnish?
- We use unlacquered solid brass. Expect a soft patina over 12–18 months — it's part of the appeal.
