Three formats
Full library wall — floor to ceiling, often with a ladder. Alcove bookcase — open shelving in the recess either side of a chimney breast. Integrated bookcase — flanking a TV cabinet or running below a window.
- Adjustable shelves on hidden pegs
- Integrated LED uplight on every shelf
- Closed cupboards at the base for clutter
- Mixed open and closed compartments
Shelf depth and spacing
Most books are 22–28 cm deep — we standardise shelf depth at 30 cm. Spacing is adjustable, but we set the first three shelves at 32 cm (paperbacks plus tall hardbacks), then taller below for art books and folios.
Frequently asked questions
- Can you build a bookcase around a TV?
- Yes — TV niches with cable management and integrated lighting are very common.
- What finishes work best for a library wall?
- Hand-sprayed paint in a deep neutral or library-green is the classic; oak veneer reads warmer and more modern.
