Alcove cupboards

Alcove cupboards — fitted joinery flanking a chimney breast

Alcove cupboards are the period-home classic — closed storage below the picture-rail line, open shelving or display above, mirrored either side of the chimney breast. SAV designs them around your room's skirting, picture-rail and cornice so they read as part of the house.

Fitted alcove cupboards with open shelving above

Closed below, open above

The standard SAV alcove cabinet runs full-width of the recess, with a flat or shaker door on the lower carcass and open shelving above. Shelves usually align with the chimney-breast mantel or the picture rail, so the proportions match the room.

  • Shaker or flush door style to match the rest of the room
  • Adjustable shelves above, finished to wall colour or contrast
  • LED strip lighting under each shelf
  • Scribed to skirting and picture rail for a seamless line

Frequently asked questions

Can I have full-height alcove cupboards instead of shelves above?
Yes — full-height closed cupboards are popular in bedrooms; open shelving above is more common in living rooms.
Will the doors close flush with the chimney breast?
Yes — we trim the carcass to match the breast face exactly, so the doors sit in line.
