Bay window seats

Bay window seats with storage — bench joinery for period bays

A bay window seat turns the deepest part of a London period bay into both a place to sit and useful storage. SAV builds seats with lift-up lids or front drawers, scribed to the bay's angles and topped with bench cushions made by our upholsterer.

Two seat formats

Lift-up lid — the simplest layout, with a deep storage void underneath for blankets, board games and seasonal kit. Front drawers — three soft-close drawers that pull out into the room, ideal for items you use weekly.

  • Lift-up lids with soft-close hinges
  • Front-pull-out soft-close drawers
  • Upholstered cushion in your choice of fabric
  • Painted to match skirting and shutters

Working with the bay geometry

Most London bays are three-faced and rarely square. We laser-scan the bay and design a seat that follows the exact angles — splayed front faces, slim mitres, and a continuous cushion that spans the whole seat.

Frequently asked questions

Can you build a window seat where there's a radiator?
Yes — the radiator usually moves or is replaced with under-bench convector trench heating, which we coordinate with your plumber.
What cushion thickness is comfortable?
We use a 75 mm foam core wrapped in a Dacron fill, which sits soft but holds shape over years.
