Over-bed wardrobes

Over-bed wardrobes — bridge storage that wraps the headboard

Over-bed wardrobes turn the wall behind a bed into usable storage. A bridge cabinet runs across the top of the headboard, full-height wardrobes flank either side, and the bed itself sits in a recess — a high-impact look that frees up the rest of the bedroom.

How over-bed storage works

We build full-height wardrobes either side of the bed, then connect them with a 35–45 cm deep bridge cabinet across the top. The bed slides into the recess; the bridge holds extra bedding, books or rarely-used items behind soft-close flap doors.

Headboard, bedside lighting and even sockets can be integrated into the joinery, so the whole wall reads as one designed feature.

What to think about

Headroom matters — bridge cabinets need at least 30 cm clearance above the mattress so you can sit up comfortably. We measure for that on the survey.

  • Soft-close flap doors with push-to-open hinges above the bed
  • Integrated wall lights or LED reading strips
  • Hidden sockets and USB ports for phones and lamps
  • Matching headboard panel or upholstered insert

Frequently asked questions

Will I bang my head sitting up in bed?
Not if the bridge sits at the right height — we allow 30–40 cm clearance above a normal mattress and pillows.
Is it hard to change the bed later?
No — beds slide in and out of the recess. We allow standard UK mattress dimensions plus a few mm of tolerance on each side.
