How over-bed storage works
We build full-height wardrobes either side of the bed, then connect them with a 35–45 cm deep bridge cabinet across the top. The bed slides into the recess; the bridge holds extra bedding, books or rarely-used items behind soft-close flap doors.
Headboard, bedside lighting and even sockets can be integrated into the joinery, so the whole wall reads as one designed feature.
What to think about
Headroom matters — bridge cabinets need at least 30 cm clearance above the mattress so you can sit up comfortably. We measure for that on the survey.
- Soft-close flap doors with push-to-open hinges above the bed
- Integrated wall lights or LED reading strips
- Hidden sockets and USB ports for phones and lamps
- Matching headboard panel or upholstered insert
Frequently asked questions
- Will I bang my head sitting up in bed?
- Not if the bridge sits at the right height — we allow 30–40 cm clearance above a normal mattress and pillows.
- Is it hard to change the bed later?
- No — beds slide in and out of the recess. We allow standard UK mattress dimensions plus a few mm of tolerance on each side.
