Modern Fitted Wardrobes in 2026 — Materials, Finishes and Layouts

What we're being asked for, what we're recommending, and what we're talking clients out of in 2026.

Modern fitted wardrobes have settled into a clear style. Slab doors, no visible handles, deeply matt finishes, integrated lighting. Here's what's working in our installs this year.

1. Handleless wins

Push-to-open hinges and J-pull profiles have replaced visible handles in 70% of our 2026 installs. The look reads as architecture; the hardware is invisible.

2. Hand-sprayed paint in deep neutrals

Farrow & Ball Pigeon, Pavilion Gray, Hague Blue and Studio Green dominate. Matt finish only — gloss reads as flat-pack.

3. Fluted timber as a feature

Used selectively — a single fluted door bank within a larger run of flush doors, or fluting on the chimney breast between two alcove wardrobes.

4. Integrated LED, warm-white only

Cool-white LED is over. 2700–3000K warm strips under every shelf, motion-activated, dimmable.

5. Tall, full ceiling

No dust gaps. Every wardrobe reaches the ceiling, with top-flap cabinets above 2.1 m for rarely-used storage.

See the modern fitted wardrobes page for layouts and finishes, or the materials guide for the full palette.
