A bedroom feature wall built in joinery rather than wallpaper lasts decades and adds resale value. Below are eight layouts we've installed.
1. Floor-to-ceiling fluted oak panelling
Vertical fluting in 30 mm oak strips, full height behind the bed. Warm, tactile, perfect with linen bedding.
2. Wall-to-wall upholstered headboard
A single upholstered panel running the full wall width, framed by recessed reading lights. Reads as architecture rather than furniture.
3. Hand-sprayed deep colour with picture-rail trim
Farrow & Ball Hague Blue or Studio Green from skirting to picture rail, joinery trim above. Period-friendly and dramatic.
4. Mirror feature wall with bronze tint
A full-wall bronze mirror behind the bed, framed in slim brass profiles. Best in north-facing rooms where you need extra light.
5. Over-bed bridge with side wardrobes
Wardrobe joinery as the feature wall — full-height units either side of the bed, bridge cabinet over the headboard, integrated reading lights in the bridge underside.
6. Bookcase wall as headboard
Floor-to-ceiling open bookcase behind the bed, with the bed acting as the bench in front. Works in bedrooms with high ceilings.
7. Reeded glass and fluted timber combination
Lower half in fluted timber, upper half in reeded glass with backlight. Modern and unexpected.
8. Limewashed timber boarding
Horizontal V-groove boarding in limewashed oak, ceiling to skirting. Coastal, calm, ages beautifully.
